Healthcare Technology
Applied Software Innovation
Our work with healthcare systems began in 2001 with the design, development and delivery of ECCIS (Electronic Colposcopy Charting and Imaging System). Based on experience in this sector gained over nearly 20 years, MedWerks is focusing on niche clinical and screening systems that provide full process and data support but are also architected for ease of integration with other systems and platforms.
ECCIS is a collaborative web-enabled clinical application, developed for the BC Colposcopy Program and deployed at Vancouver General Hospital since 2003.
ECCIS is a full-featured specialized solution including:
- patient referral intake and scheduling;
- patient history;
- encounter data;
- imaging and annotation;
- laboratory requisitions (e.g. pathology, cytology, etc.);
- synoptic encounter reporting;
- treatment management;
- bring forwards / reminders;
- forensic data;
- clinical statistics (operational, clinical, and healthcare); and
- ease of training and use.
ECCIS supports concurrent examinations in multiple encounter rooms, and can be deployed as a stand-alone or integrated into a hosting facility.
ECCIS 3.0 was designed to initially support the Colposcopy specialization (cervical cancer screening, assessment, treatment and follow-up of abnormalities of the cervix, vagina, uterus, vulva and perianal area). In terms of process support, charting, and encounter management, there are significant parallels between Colposcopy and other specialized clinical practices such as Endoscopy and Colonoscopy. Based on this, Medwerks is actively moving toward a more generic platform, which can support different practices through flexible, modular design and configuration (e.g. regarding nomenclature).
Some of the immediate benefits of deployment include:
- increased patient throughput;
- decreased report and patient wait time;
- improved consistency and accuracy; and
- reduced workload for clinicians and support staff.
ECCIS 3.0 is architected and designed with a view to the future.
Security and Integrity
Enhanced security (internet, access, role), privacy, auditability, ‘captured in error’ support, and other features that address regulatory compliance.
Automation
Auto-generation of appointment confirmations, encounter reports and lab requisitions, decision support for recommendations (knowledge-based system).
Scalable and Flexible
Supports one or multiple sites on a centralized distributed database), configurable and modular (core modules + add-ons). Supports regional deployment and reporting.
Integration
Modular standalone application that can be readily integrated with other medical systems and platforms to eliminate data & functional redundancy. Anticipates self-service by referring doctors.
Deployment
Software deployment is flexible depending on clients’ security needs; can be deployed from the cloud (e.g. AWS, Google) or from within the client’s secure infrastructure. SaaS is another option.
